As Pope Benedict notes, Christianity "is not a new philosophy or a new form of morality. We are only Christians if we encounter Christ... We can also encounter Christ in reading Holy Scripture, in prayer, and in the liturgical life of the Church - touch Christ's heart and feel that Christ touches ours. And it is only in this personal relationship with Christ, in this meeting with the Risen One, that we are truly Christian” (Pope Benedict, Vatican City, Wednesday Audience, Sept. 3, 2008). Retreats are one of the ways we invite our students to encounter Christ in the process of their education at Lake Catholic. Each year of school brings a new retreat opportunity.

Freshmen

Our freshmen begin the year with an introductory retreat, led by faculty and senior leaders at Red Oak Camp. This retreat focuses on building relationships and introducing the class to the prayer life of Lake Catholic High School.

Sophomores

The sophomores attend a retreat at Camp Koinia in Geneva-on-the-Lake, and focus on encountering God and being intentional in his presence. Students participate in small group discussions and have dedicated time for prayer and reflection.

Juniors

The Junior retreat focuses on gifts and how we are called to use them in the world. Students participate in activities where they recognize their gifts and how to best share them with others.

Seniors

The seniors attend a retreat in the fall and reflect on how their faith has grown and changed over their four years, and prepare to look toward the future.

Kairos is a retreat for juniors and seniors, offering separate retreats for the girls and the boys. This is a three-day, two-night retreat held at the Loyola Retreat house in Akron. Led by senior leaders (who attended the retreat the previous year), it is a powerful experience where students have the opportunity to prayerfully examine their relationships with God, themselves, and others through small group discussion and large group activities.
